According to Florida Statute 767.04 it is against the law to have a dog on a
property or premises without the proper forewarning advisory.

Therefore, any advisory forewarning an intruder must stipulate "Bad Dog."
Unfortunately, as you travel around Florida cities many of the dog signs displayed,
forewarn with words that could be confusing to children. The common signs are:
"Beware of Dog," "Guard Dog," and/or "Warning Security Dog."

Keep in mind, children beginning school usually learn 2 and 3 letter words.
These children are usually 5 or 6 years of age. The importance of using the "Bad
Dog" sign is that both words are singular syllable words making it easy for these
children to read. Words such as "Security, Beware, or Guard" either have 2 / 3
syllables or silent vowel spelling making it difficult for children to comprehend.

Keep in mind, statistics show that over 80% of criminals are illiterate. However,
though illiterate the majority can spell 2/3 letter words.

NOTE: If a  resident does not display the appropriate advisory that there is a dog
on the premises, as the Florida statute requires, the owner could be liable for the
injuries the intruder obtains from the residing dog, even if it's an illegal entry. Not
only is the owner liable, so is the governing association, and the city officials -
governing that resident.

As a minimum, advisory notices must be displayed in every point of entry of a
property or resident - where the potential for bodily injury is possible by your
four-legged companion.

Fenced properties should display said advisories every eight (8) feet. Said
reasoning is for those fences that are built byway of 8 foot panels. If a fence panel
falls for whatever reason (specifically weather - hurricanes) any panel that remain
standing shall advise the intruder.
